Rackstraw Downes Exhibition at The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum
Rackstraw Downes: Under the Westside Highway
Until January 2, 2011, The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum in Ridgefield, CT, is showing a 3-part work by Rackstraw Downes, Under the Westside Highway at 145th Street: The North River Water Pollution Control Plant. Downes' paintings suggest photo-realism, but are actually made entirely without the use of photos. Many sketches, drawings and preliminary paintings all figure in the creation of the final work and these preparatory works are included in the exhbition. The whole process took over a year. For more information, go to the Aldrich website.
