Matisse: Portrait of Yvonne Landsberg, 1914
"Matisse: Radical Invention, 1913–1917" is the name of a new show at MOMA opening Sunday, July 18th and running to October 11th. The four years of the artist's life the exhibit showcases were perhaps the most challenging of his career. Picasso's “Demoiselles d’Avignon” of 1907 and the development of cubism by Picasso and Georges Braque had shaken the entire world of Western art. More than 100 works are in the show. Read the review, "Matisse at MoMA: Carving With Color," by Roberta Smith in the New York Times.
